Happy Friday the 13th, 2009 and 1234567890 Unix Time! This is an occurrence that will NEVER ever happen again in anyone’s lifetime unless and until a new reference time is established. You see, 1234567890 is how many seconds have passed since 00:00:00 hours Greenwich Mean Time on January 1st, 1970. In other words, it has taken more than 39 years for this moment to come! The ten-digit date will never occur again. And it could have been Y2K disastrous, since it was likely used as a testing date by programmers decades ago on legacy systems that are still in use today. (No one back in those days never envisioned the systems they were creating would operational and mission-critical today).
And to think… it happened on Friday the 13th!
UPDATE: This year, there were TWO Friday the 13ths… Another coincidence? Maybe. In any event, this is a rare circumstance… every year has at least one Friday the 13th, but very few have two. I know of none that have three, but I haven’t dug that deep into the calendar.
